Résumé
Language contact and dialect contact are by definition social phenomenon that result in when two speech communities of different sociolinguistic backgrounds come into contact.In Adrar city and its neighbouring villages a dialect contact of some degree of intensity seems to have been taking place over at least the last fifteen years.Such a contact is between two mutually intelligeable Arabic varieties and may lead to dialect change.One mechanism assumed to be behind such an assumingly existant change is is speech accommodation, a theory that was developed by Howard Giles and his associates over the past five decades within the frame work of social psychology.Unlike the social psychologists’ approach which aims at accounting for the short-term face-to-face accommodation, this paper aims at studying the long-term accommodation and its impacts on both dialects involved in contact.Therefore the general frame work of the paper is sociolinguistic, and more precisely it is classified within the field of contact linguistics.Its aim is more or less to study contact-induced dialect change in an Adrarian urban community.
