Etablissement Université Mohamed Ben Ahmed d’Oran 2 Affiliation Département de la langue d’Anglais Auteur SAHLI, Sara Directeur de thèse BORSALI Fawzi (Professeur) Filière Civilisation africaine Diplôme Magister Titre The Sudan crisis: the case of north-south political conflict [1956 - 1989]. Mots clés The civil war, the peaceful agreement 1972, the southern revolutionary movements. Résumé It was rather a political conflict between the northern political parties and the southern groups and which originated during the British occupation of the Sudan. The period from 1956-1989 was characterized by successive parliamentary and military regimes which led to the escalation of the north-south conflict since the southern quest for a federal system was neglected by the central government in the north. Although various attempts were set up to mitigate this controversy, the outbreak of the two civil wars asserted the perpetuation of this serious issue which left an incredible mark in the history of Sudan. The evolution of the southern revolutionary movements which were due to the lack of the political organization widened the gap between the two parts of the country; therefore, it became necessary to call for a rational consensus to rule the country as one unity.
