Résumé
Several controversies over the teaching of “the evolution theory” in American public schools have been traced back to various religious implications that were deeply engraved in the American culture and beliefs. As a theory that contradicted religious beliefs, Evolutionism was rejected by fundamentalists for it first frightened them. They have rather struggled to impose the teaching of Creationism as a familiar aspect that was already stated in the Bible (Genesis). The controversy between fundamentalists and creationists was directed by and based on religion. This religious struggle served as a means to dominate the political scene in both North and South America, resulting in remarkable differences between the two. Yet, one can hardly imagine the tremendous impact of religious interference in shaping and directing politics in the United States.
