Résumé
The present study examines the factors that may be the cause of the students’ writing difficulties at the Setif University English Department, and the types of strategies they use in developing and organizing their ideas. It also explores their perceptions about their writing strategies while composing, and the way they process writing. Moreover, the study attempts to gauge the students’ affective factors that may have an effect on their writing achievement, with the goal of enhancing their positive affect. These factors consist mainly of the students’ writing self-efficacy, that is the writers’ beliefs about their abilities, and their writing apprehension, i.e., fear from approaching writing situations. In conducting this work, the researcher used pre- and post-study questionnaires, pre- and post-study tests, and think-aloud protocols to collect the data for this study. The results of the study will be analyzed both quantitatively and qualitatively and a comparison will be made between the study and the control groups.
