Résumé
This work examines the gap between the sociolinguistic reality of the Algerian society and the political sphere which has claimed the linguistic homogeneity of the country. The Algerian language policy, after independence up to nowadays, has always considered Algeria as a monolingual country, i.e., Classical Arabic is the language of all Algerians and Arabness is their identity. The Algerian state imposed a linguistic policy of assimilation with no interest to the legitimate languages of the country.
