In this dissertation intend to examine the far-reaching effects of western knowledge on the africain intellectual, as they can be traced in three novels of the ghanaian novelist ayi kwei armah. The motoring idea running through the works is that western knowledge has exercised some inhibiting influence on africain intelluctuals, as they attempt to define their role and action in society
